CHERRY OAT DESSERT SQUARES Mary Cecil - Swedesboro
1 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine or butter (softened) 1 21-oz can cherry pie filling 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup quick or old- fashioned oats 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In large mixing bowl, combine sugar, nuts, oats, margarine and flour until crumbly. Reserve 1 1/2 cups. Press remainder into bottom of 9 inch square baking dish. Stir cinnamon into cherry filling. Spread over crust. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over top, pressing in lightly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Cut into squares.
