South Jersey Laws
Fines

If a driver is convicted of a traffic violation, they are required to pay a fine. The amount of the fine depends upon the type of violation. In New Jersey, fines can range from $43 to $3,500, depending upon whether the driver has previously been convicted of the same violation.

Fines can also include court costs and handling fees, as well as special fines set up by the state legislature, for example, the Safe Neighborhoods Fund. All fines are usually paid when a driver appears in court and is found guilty. If the ticket received does not specify a required court appearance, a driver may pay the fine by mail if they choose to plead guilty.
