Improper passing
New Jersey Statute: 39:4-125 (Turning on curve, grade or place where view obstructed or highway marked with “No U turn” sign)


If a driver makes a U-turn where they cannot see oncoming traffic clearly, or there is a “No U-Turn” sign, that driver may be guilty of making an improper turn.


Penalties:
If the driver is found guilty:

  • A fine of $78; or
  • A fine of $133 if the driver received the ticket in a construction zone.
If a driver pleads guilty in Court, or the Court finds a driver guilty after trial:
  • A fine of $50 to $200; or
  • A jail sentence of up to 15 days; or
  • Both.
