Reckless Driving
New Jersey Statute: 39:4-96 (Reckless Driving)


If a vehicle is driven in a manner that is extremely careless, disregarding the rights or safety of others, whether on purpose or by accident, the driver may be guilty of reckless driving.


Penalties:
If the driver is found guilty:
First Offense:

  • A fine of $50 to $200; or
  • A jail sentence of up to 60 days; or
  • Both.

Second Offense:
  • A fine of $100 to $500; or
  • A jail sentence of up to 90 days; or
  • Both.


Points:

  • 5 points.
