DRPA Seeks Public Input on E-ZPass

by Press Release - Delaware River Port Authority | Nov 15, 2003
DRPA Seeks Public Input on E-ZPass The Delaware River Port Authority is soliciting public comments as it weighs a proposal to eliminate E-ZPass discounts at its four bridges. DRPA is planning public hearings in the coming weeks. Until dates and locations are announced, customers are welcome to voice their opinions via email at info@lists.drpa.org

DRPA is facing a $15 million budget shortfall in 2004. To help bridge the gap between operating expenses and revenue, the Board of Commissioners is reviewing eliminating EZ-Pass discounts, offering early retirement to cut staff, and requiring employee contributions to health care. Other budget cuts are also under consideration. The Board of Commissioners is expected to make its decisions in December.

The Delaware River Port Authority is a regional transportation and development agency. DRPA owns and operates the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Commodore Barry and Betsy Ross bridges, and the PATCO Speedline, the AmeriPort Intermodal Rail Center, the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal at Pier 1 and the RiverLink Ferry System.

By virtue of a 1992 federally authorized charter amendment, the DRPA has taken a leadership role in the commercial and industrial revitalization of the Philadelphia-Camden Waterfront and in economic development projects within the Port District in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
