New Year`s Alcohol Transporting Illegal If you are thinking about crossing state lines to stock up on alcohol for New Year's Eve, Police are warning you it's illegal. They're reminding citizens of New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware that this year officers will pull out all the stops to catch people in the act.

Unmarked State Police units target all the Pennsylvania and New Jersey license plates that leave Delaware and/or New Jersey liquor stores that then head to Pennsylvania with booze that has not been taxed or taxed less in Jersey.

A bottle of wine that costs about $20, plus tax in Pennsylvania, is only $8.99 in Delaware.

Janice, a Brook Haven resident spoke with reporters and said that she saves so much money buying wine in Camden, NJ and taking it back to Brook Haven that it's worth the risk.

"I don't think it's fair," she said, "I think it's unconstitutional. I mean unless they see you buying, they shouldn't have the right to stop and search you for no reason."

Some Pennsylvania state stores have been trying to keep customers from buying in Delaware by remodeling stores and slashing prices for the upcoming New Year's celebration.

If you are caught bringing beer from New Jersey or Delaware into Pennsylvania, it is a $10 fine. If you are caught bringing in liquor and wine, it is a $25 fine per-bottle.
