Anthrax Clean-Up Successful The anthrax cleanup at a postal facility in Hamilton, N.J. is being called a success.

That's the word from postal union president Bill Lewis, who said was notified Monday morning that fumigation of the building was effective.

Lewis said follow-up tests showed no signs of anthrax the 282,000 square-foot building.

Postal Service officials are expected to make an announcement at 11:30 Monday morning.

In the October, a crew pumped chlorine dioxide gas throughout the building.

That same process successfully killed anthrax at the Brentwood postal facility and Hart Senate Office Building in Washington, DC.

The Hamilton facility has been closed since October 2001, after handling tainted letters addressed to Senators Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy, NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw and the New York Post.

Nationwide, five people died in the anthrax attacks and 17 were sickened.

There were five confirmed anthrax infections and two suspected cases in New Jersey, but no fatalities.

No one has ever been charged in the case, which remains under investigation by the FBI.
