Riversharks May Get New Owners

by NBC10/AP | Mar 4, 2004
Riversharks May Get New Owners Three men who already own Atlantic League baseball teams intend to buy the Camden Riversharks.

The Riversharks have been drawing more than 4,500 fans per game to Campbell's Field. But the gate receipts have not been enough to for the team to make money.

The team is responsible for paying loans to cover most of the construction cost for the stadium, which is owned by Rutgers University.

Frank Boulton, Peter Kirk and Steven Kalafer say they'll buy the team if they can restructure its debt by March 19.

The prospective new owners are scheduled to meet with the Delaware River Port Authority today. The team has asked the DRPA to advance it $2 million so its loans could be restructured.

The DRPA, which has already loaned the Riversharks $8.5 million, has been reluctant to put more public money into the team.
