Kidnapper Wants Bail Reduced

by NBC10/AP | Apr 15, 2004
Kidnapper Wants Bail Reduced Carolyn Correa, the Willingboro, N.J., woman accused of kidnapping a Philadelphia relative's daughter and raising her for six years, wants her $1 million bail reduced.

Correa said she is not a flight risk. Her lawyer said Correa knew of the probe on Feb. 9, but never fled before her March 2 arrest. Correa's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday morning in Philadelphia Family Court.

Police believe she set a fire to cover the kidnapping of ten-day-old Delimar Vera in December 1997, then raised her as a daughter named Aaliyah Hernandez. The girl is now living with her biological mother, Luz Aida Cuevas of Philadelphia, and has had visits with her father, Pedro Vera. Cathie Abookire, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Lynne Abraham, declines to comment.
