New NJ Physicians Website

It appears labor pains are plaguing a new Web site that is designed to provide detailed information about physicians in New Jersey.

State officials blame server problems for thwarting Wednesday's debut.

Officials aren't sure when the glitches will be cured.

The Web site includes information about disciplinary action and malpractice settlements. There is also general information, such as where the doctor went to school and trained.

The Medical Society of New Jersey fought releasing the malpractice information. The group said doctors would be less likely to settle such cases if the information is not kept confidential.

The Health Care Consumer Information Act required the Consumer Affairs Division to set up the physician profile site.
