Camden Fights Crime

The city has had 33 homicides this year and dozens of shootings, stabbings and other violent incidents.
To help combat the problem, officials want to use police foot patrols through troubled neighborhoods. This would supplement squad cars on the street and give more attention to criminal activity and lesser problems, such as loitering and curfew violations.
Officials also plan to give greater priority to solving nonfatal shootings, which will help take violent offenders off the street.
Mayor Gwendolyn Faison is expected to provide more details of the anti-crime initiative Thursday afternoon.
