Steel Magnolias Coming to the Stage The Haddonfield Plays & Players production of "Steel Magnolias" will open this week. The play was written by Louisiana-native Robert Harding, and made its Off-Broadway debut in 1987. Harding adapted the screenplay for the film version that was produced in 1989. Julia Roberts was nominated for an Oscar for her portrayal of Shelby in the movie. The Plays & Players' Preview is Thursday, June 7 at 7:30 PM. The show opens Friday, June 8, and continues with weekend performances thru Saturday, June 23. Two-for-one tickets are available for the Preview and Opening Night shows. Evening performances -- June 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 -- are at 8:00 PM. Matinees -- June 10 and 17 -- are at 2:00 PM. Tickets are $14 for the Preview and Sunday afternoon shows; $16 for all evening performances. All performances are held at the Plays & Players Theatre, located on South Atlantic Avenue, just off Upland Way, in the Crows Woods section of Haddonfield.
