Rockies Get Revenge Against Phillies

Rockies Get Revenge Against Phillies Just one day after arriving from Triple-A, Brooks Kieschnick made the most of his opportunity. Kieschnick, who had not had a hit in the majors in four years, had a two-run single in the seventh inning as the Colorado Rockies overcame a one-run deficit and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-2, Wednesday night.

"One day in 1997, I had a couple of homers in a game," said Kieschnick, whose last hit was Sept. 28, 1997 while with the Chicago Cubs. "That was my biggest day until now."

Kieschnick, who played a bit with the Cincinnati Reds last year, was called up from Colorado Springs on Tuesday and was batting with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning. His single off reliever Wayne Gomes drove in Todd Hollandsworth and Neifi Perez.

"For us, that was huge," said Hollandsworth, who homered to extend his hitting streak to 15 games and also scored twice. "Basically, the game was on the line there. It turned the whole game around."

Brian Bohanon (1-3) gave up two runs, six hits, struck out two and walked one walk in six innings. Kane Davis pitched 2 2-3 innings of scoreless relief, and Jose Jimenez got Doug Glanville to line out to second with the bases loaded in the ninth to earn his seventh save.

"(Bohanon) didn`t get out of his pattern and got his first win when we really needed it," Rockies manager Buddy Bell said. "It`s all about pitching. He kept us close tonight so then we didn`t need anything huge."

Hollandsworth`s homer, his sixth of the season, was a solo shot that hit the facade of the upper deck in right field. He also knocked in a run on a groundout in the eighth.

Brent Mayne knocked in two insurance runs in the eighth with a bases-loaded single off reliever Eddie Oropesa, who walked three in his one inning.

The Phillies, who have lost five of six, scored two in the second on a leadoff home run by Jimmy Rollins – his first in the majors – and an RBI single by Travis Lee.

Philadelphia`s Robert Person (2-3) had little trouble until the seventh when he loaded the bases, thanks in part to walking two after striking out the first two he faced. Person gave up seven hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out six.

"I think Person ran out of gas in the seventh," manager Larry Bowa said. "He had two outs and nobody on and then walked two guys."

Notes:
Hollandsworth`s hitting streak is the longest in the National League this season and the longest of his career. ... Kieschnick took Jeff Cirillo`s spot on the Rockies roster. Cirillo was placed on the disabled list with a left rib cage injury. ... Glanville is 2-for-25 with runners in scoring position this season. ... The Phillies turned three double plays, a season high.
