Phillies Rout Baltimore

Phillies Rout Baltimore The Philadelphia Phillies` struggling offense got just what it needed; a visit from the Baltimore Orioles pitching staff.

For the second straight night, the Phillies feasted on Baltimore pitching, slugging out a 14-6 win Saturday night in a game delayed by rain three times.

In two wins against Baltimore, following a 1-5 road trip, the Phillies have 29 runs and 33 hits. During the trip, Philadelphia was outscored 33-19.

"It would have been ugly to stay here this long and not win," Phillies manager Larry Bowa said. "For us to battle back like that, I tip my hat."

Johnny Estrada, Brian Hunter and Jimmy Rollins homered during a seven-run sixth inning.

Estrada led off the sixth with a homer to left, his third. Hunter then followed with his second homer of the season, both while pinch-hitting. Tomas Perez and Doug Glanville singled off B.J. Ryan before Rollins` homer to center, his seventh, off Leslie Brea.

The Phillies added runs on an infield single by Hunter and a bases loaded walk to Perez.

"It`s contagious when everyone is hitting," Hunter said. "Guys are challenging each other out there."

The start was held up by bad weather for 31 minutes and there were two mid-game stoppages totaling one hour and 44 minutes.

"The rain delay killed us, because (starter) Jason Johnson hopefully would have given us seven innings but it didn`t happen and we had to go with the same guys that worked last night," Orioles manager Mike Hargrove said. "That`s no excuse, it just happened."

Chris Brock (3-0) went 1 1-3 innings, giving up one hit and striking out two for the win.

Ryan (2-3) surrendered two homers in the sixth inning and was charged with four runs.

Neither starter made it out of the fifth inning. Philadelphia`s Robert Person gave up six runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out seven in 4 1-3 innings.

Johnson also went 4 1-3 innings, giving up five Phillies runs -- three earned -- and three hits.

Baltimore took a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run homer by David Segui, his fourth.

Philadelphia got three runs in the third. Marlon Anderson doubled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Person, who was safe on an error. Glanville, who was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and three RBI, drove both runners in with a double. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Scott Rolen.

The Orioles got three runs in the fourth on a solo homer by Chris Richard, his ninth, and a two-run shot by Cal Ripken, his fourth.

Brian Roberts scored on a wild pitch by Brock to make it 6-3 in the fifth.

Philadelphia got two back in the bottom of the fifth on another RBI double by Glanville and a sacrifice fly by Pat Burrell.

The Phillies scored two more in the eighth on a run-scoring double by reliever Ricky Bottalico, his first career RBI, and an RBI single by Glanville.

Game notes:
Bobby Abreu stole two bases and has grabbed nine straight without getting caught. The Phillies lead the National League with 69 steals. ... The Phillies have five pinch-hit homers this season. ... Each of Baltimore`s four pitchers surrendered a run. ... Brea was sent down to Triple-A Rochester and RHP Calvin Maduro, a former Phillies pitcher, was recalled.h
