An Anticipated Tradition
 It’s an annual tradition the Saturday after Thanksgiving when the Hotstovers Baseball Club of South Jersey hosts its 64th annual awards banquet. This year’s banquet is Saturday, Nov. 30 at Adelphia Restaurant in Deptford. 

The new members of the South Jersey Hall of Fame will be inducted. In addition, the All-South Jersey Baseball Team will be honored. There are several others who will earn awards, including the South Jersey Baseball Coach of the Year. 

In this week’s article we will look at the All-South Jersey Baseball team being honored. The grades listed are from the 2024 baseball season. Stats are courtesy of NJ.com.

P – Ryder Garino, Senior from Cherry Hill West. Now at South Carolina, Garino was 9-0 with a 0.39 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings. He helped lead West to the Olympic Conference Patriot Division and Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic championships. 

P – Landon Mack, Senior from Bishop Eustace. Currently at Rutgers, Mack had a 0.55 ERA, with 85 strikeouts in 51 innings for the Olympic National champions. Mack also batted .365 with nine home runs and 27 RBI.

P – Matt Kouser, Senior from St. Augustine. Now at Northwestern, Kouser had a 0.83 ERA with 56 strikeouts in 50 innings for the Non-Public A state champions.

P – Tate DeRias, Senior from Gloucester Catholic. Now at Miami, DeRias had a 0.66 ERA with 91 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings for the Non-Public B state champions. He also batted .411 with 22 RBI. 

P – Luke Pokrovsky, Junior at Schaick. Pokrovsky pitched to a 1.03 ERA in 57 2/3 innings while recording 122 strikeouts.

C – Tommy Popoff, Senior from Kingsway. Now at Binghamton, Popoff batted .452 with four home runs and 33 RBI. 

C – Braeden Lipoff, Sophomore at Gloucester Catholic. Lipoff batted .389 with three home runs and 27 RBI for New Jersey’s No. 1 ranked team according to NJ.com.

OF Leo Orefice, Senior from Cherry Hill West. A centerfielder, Orefice batted .405 with a .571 slugging percentage. He had 12 doubles, 22 RBI and 35 runs scored.

INF – Jon Young, Senior from Cherry Hill West. Now at the University of Alabama, Young led West with 38 runs scored. He was named the Courier Post South Jersey Player of the Year after batting .458 with seven home runs and 47 RBI.

INF - Jake Cagna, Junior at Egg Harbor Township. Cagna batted .359 with 21 runs scored for the South Jersey Group 4 finalists. On the mound, he struck out 31 in 20 1/3 innings. 

INF – Jason Salsbery, Senior from Egg Harbor Township. Now at Thomas Jefferson, Salsbery batted .398 with three home runs and 20 RBI. He also had an 0.82 ERA in 34 1/3 innings pitched. 

INF – Evan Taylor, Junior at Ocean City. An Alabama commit, Taylor batted .353 with five home runs and 23 RBI. He also had a 2.71 ERA in 10 1/3 innings. 

INF – Guy Lynam, Sophomore at Gloucester Catholic. A third baseman, Lynam batted .393 with 11 stolen bases, 19 runs scored and 31 RBI. 

INF – Logan Dawson, Junior at Eastern. A Boston College commit, Dawson hit .364 with three home runs and 29 RBI. He also had a 1.97 ERA with 75 strikeouts in 64 innings. 

INF – Reid Uccello, Senior from Shawnee. Uccello batted .358 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 23 runs. 

INF Sam Winsett, Senior from Eastern. Now at Coastal Carolina, Winsett batted .459 with three home runs and 29 RBI for the SJ Group 4 champions. 

DH – Noah Danza, Sophomore at Gloucester Catholic. A shortstop and Virginia commit, Danza batted .427 with three home runs and 27 RBI.

DH – Andrew Shank, Senior from Lenape. Shank hit .376 with two home runs and 30 RBI. He also had a 1.42 ERA in 24 2/3 innings. 

OF – Jake Meyers, Senior from St. Augustine. Currently at NJIT, Meyers batted .385 with 17 walks and 21 runs scored for the Non-Public A state champions. 

OF – Drew Harris, Senior from Haddon Heights. Now at George Washington, he batted .479 with 13 doubles and 27 RBI. He also had a 2.25 ERA in 46 2/3 innings. 

OF – Zach Maxwell, Senior from Delsea. Maxwell batted .433 with six home runs and 24 RBI for the South Jersey Group 3 champions. 

OF – Jake Bartletta, Junior at Rancocas Valley. Bartletta batted .471 with 28 runs scored and 18 RBI. 

OF – Chase Kroberger, Junior at Moorestown. An Alabama commit, Kroberger hit 415 with nine home runs and 21 RBI. 

UTL – Grant Fournier, Junior at Cherry Hill West. Fournier batted .444 with seven doubles and 28 RBI.

UTIL – Joe Elmes, Senior from Palmyra. Elmes batted .490 with three home runs and 20 RBI. He also had a 2.45 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 48 2/3 innings.
