A Look At Some Top South Jersey H.S. Baseball Players
Earlier we looked at the top South Jersey high school softball players in the early part of the season. Here is a look at just some of the top baseball players who have performed at a high level during the first month of the season. The players are listed in alphabetical order. Statistics are entering this week.

Jimmy Gallagher, Williamstown, Sr. RHP. An Appalachian State commit, Gallagher was 1-2 with a 1.80 in his first six appearances. During his most recent outing he pitched a no-hitter in a 10-0 five-inning win over consensus Top 10 South Jersey team Shawnee.

Braeden Lipoff, Gloucester Catholic, Sr. C. Lipoff is batting .429 with three home runs and 21 RBIs in his first 14 games for the three-time defending state Non-Public B champions. He also does an outstanding job defensively and handling the pitching staff. Lipoff is an East Carolina commit. Gallagher struck out 13 and walked just one.

Cole Marchetti, Northern Burlington Sr. INF-RHP. A Rutgers commit, Marchetti has been among the top two-way players in South Jersey for the defending state Group 3 champions. In helping Northern Burlington win its first 11 games, Marchetti was batting .545 with two home runs, 15 RBIs and an .818 slugging percentage. On the mound he was 4-0 with a 0.95 ERA. In 22 innings, he had struck out 46.

Jude Morgan, Gloucester Catholic Sr. RHP. Morgan is 4-1 with a 3.09 ERA, but the stats deserve an explanation. He had a rough beginning allowing seven earned runs in his first two appearances covering 11 innings. Since then, he has allowed eight earned runs in 23 innings spanning four starts. His last start was a gem, pitching a two-hit shutout in a complete-game 6-0 victory over hard-hitting St. Augustine. Morgan, who also plays outfield is batting .349, but his future appears to be on the pitching mound.

Isayiah Pierce-Gonzalez, Cherry Hill West, Sr. LHP. A crafty southpaw, Pierce-Gonzalez was 3-0 with a 2.47 ERA in his first six games for a Cherry Hill West team that has started this season 13-0. He has not allowed a run in his last two outings, allowing four hits and striking out 11 in a 5-0 win over Sterling. He then threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out eight in a 3-0 win over two rival Cherry Hill East.

Alex Weingartner, St. Augustine Sr. OF-P. He might be the best pro prospect in South Jersey. Weingartner might have the best shot of any South Jersey player to be selected in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft. He also has made a commitment to Penn State. What makes him so marketable is that Weingartner has the ability at the college level at least, to be a two-way player. In his first 15 games, he was batting .543 with six home runs and 24 RBIs. A righthander, Weingartner was 3-1 with a 1.17 ERA. In 24 innings he has recorded 48 strikeouts.
