Phillies Rally Past Blue Jays

Phillies Rally Past Blue Jays Doug Glanville hit a go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning, and Scott Rolen homered as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 Friday night.

The Phillies, who entered tied with Atlanta for first place in the NL East, had just one hit before getting five singles in a three-run seventh inning.

Omar Daal (10-2) allowed two runs -- one earned -- and four hits in seven innings. He struck out two and walked one.

Philadelphia has won nine of 13 since being swept by the Braves in a three-game series at Veterans Stadium last month.

Blue Jays starter Steve Parris cruised until Bobby Abreu and Rolen started the seventh with back-to-back singles.

Dan Plesac (2-3) entered and Travis Lee singled to left-center, scoring Abreu to cut it to 2-1.

Bob File replaced Plesac and pinch-hitter Pat Burrell drilled an RBI single to center to drive in Rolen and tie it at 2. After Marlon Anderson sacrificed the runners, Johnny Estrada was intentionally walked.

Lee was forced out at the plate on a bouncer to third by pinch-hitter Brian Hunter. But Glanville ripped a single to right, scoring Burrell for a 3-2 lead. Estrada easily was thrown out by Raul Mondesi on the play.

Rolen made it 5-2 with a two-run homer in the eighth. File, a Philadelphia native, was ejected after hitting Lee with the second pitch following the homer.

Wayne Gomes worked the eighth, and Jose Mesa pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 25th save in 27 chances.

Parris allowed two runs and three hits, struck out five and walked one in six innings. He hasn`t allowed more than two runs in six straight starts, but he`s 1-1 with a 2.31 ERA during that stretch.

Daal, who was 4-19 last season, is 4-2 with a 5.66 ERA since winning his first six decisions this year. But he`s allowed only three earned runs in his last two starts.

Rolen, whose nine homers are among the fewest for any cleanup hitter, was booed loudly after striking out with a runner on second in the first and popping up with a runner on first in the fourth.

Toronto took a 1-0 lead in the first on back-to-back doubles by Shannon Stewart and Jose Cruz Jr. to start the game.

After Carlos Delgado was hit by a pitch with one out, Cruz scored when Lee threw wide to second on Luis Lopez`s grounder to first.

Notes: Plate umpire Gary Cederstrom warned both benches after Daal hit Delgado in the first. Delgado and Phillies OF Eric Valent were hit in Thursday`s game. ... Former umpire Eric Gregg worked his second day as a bartender in a restaurant at Veterans Stadium. ... Phillies reliever Ricky Bottalico pitched one hitless inning in a rehab assignment at Double-A Reading Friday night. He walked one and struck out one. ... Jimmy Rollins stole his 29th base and 24th in a row.
