Phillies  Keep Streak Alive Scott Rolen homered and singled as the Philadelphia Phillies extended their winning streak to five, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 8-6 Wednesday night.

Rolen went 2-for-4 and is 16-for-30 (.533) during an eight-game hitting streak with five homers, five doubles, one triple and eight RBIs. Omar Daal (11-4) won for the first time since July 13 despite allowing five runs _ four earned _ and eight hits in 5 1-3 innings. Jose Mesa pitched a perfect ninth for his 31st save in 33 chances.

Philadelphia began the night with a two-game lead over second-place Atlanta in the NL East.

Jamey Wright (8-8) allowed seven runs and 11 hits in 5 1-3 innings as Milwaukee lost for the 24th time in its last 31 games.

Daal`s RBI grounder tied the score 2-all in the second, and the Phillies went ahead for good in the third on Pat Burrell`s RBI double and Doug Glanville`s sacrifice fly.

Wright`s run-scoring single in the fourth pulled the Brewers to 4-3, but Glanville hit an RBI single in the fifth. Milwaukee closed within a run once again in the bottom half when Abreu misplayed Jeromy Burnitz`s fly to right for an error and Richie Sexson hit into a run-scoring double play.

Abreu`s RBI grounder and Travis Lee`s run-scoring infield single _ which was knocked down by second baseman Mark Loretta _ gave the Phillies a 7-4 lead in the sixth.

Devon White hit a run-scoring single in the bottom half, but Eddie Opresa relieved and retired Burnitz on an inning-ending grounder with the bases loaded.

Jose Hernandez homered in the seventh off Ricky Bottalico. Philadelphia added a run in the ninth on pinch-hitter Felipe Crespo`s RBI double off Mike DeJean.

Rolen`s homer put the Phillies ahead in the first but Burnitz hit a two-run homer in the bottom half.

Notes: Burnitz`s homer extended his hitting streak to a season-high nine games. ... Jimmy Rollins stole his NL-leading 38th base in the fourth inning, extending to 33 his club record for consecutive successful steal attempts. ... Wright`s single in the fourth was his 11th hit of the season, matching the Brewers` single-season franchise record for hits by a pitcher, tying Skip Lockwood and Hideo Nomo. Wright is 11-for-49 (.224) with no homers and four RBIs.
