(New Britain, CT)- The Thunder snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over New Britain Wednesday night, thanks in part to Cory Spencer recording his 18th save.

Spencer set a new Thunder franchise saves record. The old record was 17 by Reggie Harris in 1996.

Josh Hancock (8-5) got the win as he allowed one run and six hits in 8 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out eight. That one walk was to Michael Cuddyer with two out in the 9th Inning. That brought in Spencer, who walked the next two hitters to load the bases bases. Spencer got Gabby Torres to fly out to end the game.

Trenton (59-63) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning on a solo homer by Tonanye Brown, his 4th of the year. New Britain (74-50) tied the game in the 5th Inning on an RBI single by Tommy Peterman.

The Thunder took the lead in the 6th Inning as Virgil Chevalier reached on a two-base error by Cuddyer in left field after CF Dustan Mohr ran into him on a fly ball. Two batters later, Luis Garcia singled off Rock Cats starter Brad Thomas to score Chevalier for a 2-1 lead.

Thomas (10-3), who allowed two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings, took the loss. He left the game later in the 6th Inning because of a pulled groin muscle.

The series will wrap up on Thursday at 7:05 PM. Chris Elmore (3-1) starts for Trenton against New Britain`s Kenny Pumphrey (6-0). Copyright © 1999 TheTrenton Thunder and Velcero™ All Rights Reserved.
