Ali  Knocks Out Sharks 5-3 CAMDEN, NJ—In the opening game of a three-game series, the Atlantic City Surf knocked off the Camden Riversharks 5-3 in front of 5,494 fans at Campbell’s Field. Tonight’s attendance brings the Riversharks average to over 4,000 fans per game. The team holds the third spot in the eight-team Atlantic League for attendance. The Riversharks trail only Long Island and Somerset, respectively, in total attendance.

Sam Ali, starter for the Atlantic City Surf, went an impressive eight innings tonight allowing two runs on three hits, two walks and recorded seven strikeouts. Ali picked up the win improving his record to a team leading 10-2 for the season. The Sharks continue their offensive struggles dropping three games in a row and managing three hits throughout the game, one coming from leadoff hitter Brad Strauss who crushed his eighth home run of the season over the centerfield wall in the bottom of the eighth inning. Strauss ended the night going 1-for-3 with one run scored and two runs batted in.

The Surf were led by first baseman Jose Velazquez going 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Centerfielder Mike Fowler aided the 11-hit attack going 2-for-4, three runs scored and one run batted in. Camden starter Ryan Schurman took the loss, dropping his record to 6-9 for the season, allowing five runs on eight hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. Schurman now owns the team record in wins and losses for the Riversharks.

The Camden Riversharks continue the three-game series against the Atlantic City Surf tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. at Campbell’s Field. The Riversharks will send right-hander Lincoln Mikkelson (1-4, 5.40) to the mound to battle Ariel Garcia (6-5, 4.08) of the Surf. The tradition of postgame, Friday-night fireworks will continue tomorrow night immediately following the game.
