Leigh Valley Defeats Camden 4-2 CAMDEN, NJ: Despite out hitting 8-to-5, the Riversharks were defeated by the Lehigh Valley Diamonds 4-2 in front of 3,637 fans in an Atlantic League contest. For the second straight night, the winning team was out hit by their opponent. Last night, the Riversharks earned the victory after being out hit 10-to-8 by the Diamonds.

It was Haddon Heights native and Riversharks leadoff man, Brad Strauss Night at Campbell’s Field. The first 1,000 fans to enter the gates received a complimentary poster of their third baseman. Strauss did not disappoint his fans. He led off the bottom of the first with a double down the left field line and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Strauss finished the night 2-for-4 with one run scored. The Riversharks, who trailed the entire game, could not manage another run until the bottom of the ninth. The Diamonds entered the bottom of the ninth inning with a 4-1 cushion until pinch hitter Isaias Nunez tripled to the right-center gap in which designated hitter Jorge Morales scored to cut the lead in half. With a runner on third and only one out, the Riversharks looked as if they were rallying to take the game. But, with two straight pop outs the threat and the game was over.

Lehigh Valley starter Mark Seaver, who began the season with Camden, earned the victory (8-8) in his first start at Campbell’s Field since leaving. Angel Miranda picked up his 11th save of the season, after coming in to shut down the rally in the ninth. Camden starter Ryan Schurman took the loss, dropping his record to 9-10 for the season. He allowed four runs, three of which were earned, on four hits, four walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work. Relievers Ted Silva and Rod Bolton completed the game, allowing zero runs on one hit.

Tomorrow, the Riversharks conclude their series against Lehigh Valley with a 6:35 p.m. start time. Lincoln Mikkelson (3-5) takes the mound for Camden to battle Lehigh Valley’s Hiroshi Numate (4-5). With the series tied at one-game apiece, both teams will be battling hard to take the series advantage. Also, tomorrow night marks the return of Reggy! Original Philly Phanatic, Dave Raymond, shows off his newest creation for the final time of the 2001 inaugural season.
