USS New Jersey Moved to Camden

USS New Jersey Moved to Camden CAMDEN, N.J. :The USS New Jersey moved to its permanent berth along the Camden waterfront Sunday morning after a one-week delay caused by the terrorist attacks.

The U.S. Coast Guard gave the go-ahead for the move late Saturday night, according to Liz Thomas of the Home Port Alliance. The 60-year-old retired battleship was scheduled to be moved Sept. 16 from the South Jersey Port Corp. to the Camden waterfront, where it will become a museum and tourist attraction.

The Coast Guard, which had to approve the move and will keep river traffic out of the area until the ship is in place, has been on high alert since the attacks and had other duties that took priority over the move, according to the Home Port Alliance.
