Girls H.S. Hoops Highlights

The Overbrook High School Girls Basketball team chalked up another win last night as the beat Paul VI, 56-50 in Olympic Conference play, but that’s not the big news. Christian Barney (Senior – Guard) dumped in 23 points putting her over the 1,000-point mark. Barney with 1,018 points has now become the third member of Overbrook’s Girls Basketball to reach this mark. She joins Jennifer Still, who had 1,461 points in 1984 and Shelyna Hamilton who reached 1,116 points in 1992.

Elsewhere in Olympic Conference action the Shawnee Renegades, led by the strong play of Amanda Freeman (15 points), Chelsea Luhta (12 points), and Lisa Foran (12 points) put another check in the “W” column with a 48-43 win over Washington Township. The victory gives the Renegades their sixth straight win.

The fierce rivalry between Cherokee and Lenape ended with the Chiefs scalping the Indians, and handing them a 67-45 loss. The Chiefs had a strong third quarter, scoring 17 points to Lenape’s 7.

Woodrow Wilson came on strong in the end as they pulled off a 15-6 fourth-quarter run to chalk up a 54-46 victory over Camden Catholic. Wilson’s Shalamar Oakley added a game high 16 points as the Tigers won their fifth out of the last six games.

Led by Lisa Steele (22 points), Highland also won their fifth in a row with a 68-50 win over Pennsauken.

Timber Creek jumped out to an early 27-0 lead and never looked back as they crushed Pennsauken Tech 56-23. Nikita Wascoz was the top shooter for the Chargers with 15 points.

Over in the Burlington County League, Northern Burlington racked up 20 points in the fourth quarter as they defeated Holy Cross 53-43. Greyhounds Erica Davis and Erin Walton teamed up with 16 points each to help Northern Burlington seal the victory.

Florence fell prey to Westampton Tech. as Brandi Ross (16 points) and Kaleiah Corbin (12 points) helped Westampton Tech. Run up 67 points to Florence’s 30.

The home court advantage did little to help Burlington City as Delran’s Carrie Craft dumped in 21 points to help her team come from five points down and win 48-41 over Burlington City.

Moorestown defeated Rancocas Valley 56-39 with the help of Maudess Fulton’s 24 points.

Caitlin Gannon hit for 24 points, giving Cinnaminson a 76-55 win at Burlington Township, and Riverside defeated Palmyra 59-42 as Riverside’s Sabra Wrice netted 31 points.

In Colonial Conference action, Paulsboro’s D'Nita Hamilton (20 points) and Lori Knabb (5 points) each hit a free throw in the final six seconds of regulation giving Paulsboro a 53-51 victory over Haddon Heights.

Audubon felt the sting of Sterling’s Amanda Brennan as she hit three 3-pointers and scored a game high 19 points giving Sterling a 52-30 rout over Audubon.

Haddon Township’s Aileen Fallon and Julia Tramontana pulled down 25 rebounds ensuring the Hawks' 57-45 victory over visiting Gateway.

Haddonfield got a 54-33 win over West Deptford as Emily Heisler had 11 points and nine assists for Haddonfield.

Tri-County Conference action saw Kellie Crispin account for 12 points, including 8-for-8 from the foul line, as Pitman defeated visiting Clayton 52-37. Sarah Beato (headed for Columbia Univ. next year) added 19 points, 10 rebounds and 7 blocks to the victory.

Pennsville saw the game come apart in the third quarter as Gloucester scored 25 points giving them a 51-34 win over visiting Pennsville. Kelly Stafford with 13 points was the Lions top shooter.

Salem’s winless streak grew to six as Glassboro’s Sheemea Carr hit for 18, and Sakera Young added 10 points giving Glassboro a 38-30 win.

Led by Sophomore Lauren Fisher’s career high 26 points, Deptford won 58-45 over hosting Cumberland.
