Aztar to Build Trop Additions
Condo owners who didn't want a $225-million casino expansion next door that would block their view and disrupt the neighborhood have lost their court fight. They sought to block construction of a 502-room hotel tower, a 200,000-sq.-ft. shopping village and a 2,400-space parking garage to go up adjacent to the existing Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City. An Atlantic City Superior Court ruling yesterday paves the way for Phoenix-based Aztar, Tropicana's parent, to proceed with the additions. Aztar plans to build on an existing 3.5-acre Pacific Avenue parking lot between Iowa and Brighton avenues. The Brighton Towers Condominium Association filed suit last year, after failing to secure a reported $2.2 million in cash and other concessions from Tropicana. They claimed the project would create traffic problems and devalue the 172 condo units.
