CCC Receives County Fire Award Camden County College's executive director for facilities, operations and planning has been honored by the Camden County Fire Marshal's Office and the Camden County Board of Chosen Freeholders for exemplary efforts in the area of fire safety.

Ray Bavi received the Jack Powell Award in honor of his outstanding year-round efforts in promoting the prevention of fires and burn injuries, specifically through code compliance. He was presented with an oak plaque during an event attended by county residents, business owners and civic leaders, including Freeholder Helen M. Albright.

"It was a pleasure for me to attend the Camden County Fire Prevention Awards luncheon and witness the recognition of Ray's outstanding efforts promoting fire safety in our county facilities," noted Albright in a congratulatory letter to the college. "It is our collective goal to ensure the safety of the residents of Camden County, and Ray's dedication and contributions greatly enhance that aim."

For Bavi, receipt of the award was completely unexpected. When officials invited him to the luncheon, they hadn't told him that he would be among the honorees.

"I was very surprised," he said. "This is the highest recognition anyone can receive from the fire marshal's office, and I am very honored to be selected."

Bavi has headed Camden County College's facilities department since 2000. His responsibilities include coordinating construction projects; managing all grounds, facilities, equipment, custodial services, code compliance and regulation issues; supervising physical plant personnel; and administering contracts.

The Delran resident earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from West Liberty State College in West Virginia and a master's degree in management from Wilmington College in Delaware. Bavi also received a certificate in education facilities management from Rutgers University and a certificate in New Jersey school business administration. He holds certifications in boiler, asbestos, plumbing, New Jersey Right-to-Know Act, hazardous waste and commercial core pesticide issues.
