Motorcyclists Roar to the Shore

Motorcyclists Roar to the Shore Thousands of motorcyclists braved the elements and some poor travel conditions to raise about $50,000 for law enforcement charities in New Jersey and two neighboring states.

Organizers of the "Roar to the Shore" rally had hoped to have about 23,000 riders take part in Sunday's event, but the heavy rains that soaked the region forced many riders to drop out. However, they were impressed with those who made the two-hour ride from Philadelphia to Wildwood.

"To have this many people coming out in the rain is pretty damn impressive," Jeff Campbell, the event's chief organizer, told The Press of Atlantic City for Monday's editions. "I don't begrudge anyone from not coming down in this weather."

The annual rally raises money for charities and organizations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware that help the families of police officers killed in the line of duty. Some of the money is used to help area police departments buy bulletproof vests for K-9 police dogs and face shields and nose guards for mounted police units.
