Discounted Phone Service In SJ

by Business News New Jersey | May 3, 2002
Discounted Phone Service In SJ A Virginia-based communications company is offering local phone service to residential customers in southern New Jersey for 14% less than Verizon's current basic-service rate.

Cavalier Telephone is the first carrier to offer competing service to residential customers in the region since Conectiv Communications discontinued marketing efforts in two years ago. Cavalier purchased Conectiv's unit - which included 13,000 phone lines in New Jersey - last November. Cavalier's service offer follows a state Board of Public Utilities order that required Verizon to reduce the fee it charges competitors for access to its network.
