I-295 Construction Planned The freeway that parallels the New Jersey Turnpike from Pennsville to Trenton is due to get a major renovation. A 10-mile stretch of Interstate 295 through Cherry Hill and Mount Laurel will get wider shoulders, new pavement and traffic monitoring equipment to warn motorists of delays.

Work on the $65 million project is scheduled to begin by the end of the year and will take about two years to complete. The Cherry Hill-Mount Laurel segment is among the busiest stretches of the highway.

The high-tech gadgetry will include a device that will allow trucks to be weighed without having to pull off the road and a system of cameras and variable message boards to be used to identify and communicate information on traffic problems.

Over the last several years, the state has lined parts of the highway in the same area with barriers designed to shield nearby homes from traffic noise.
