Verizon to Offer Long Distance in NJ

Verizon to Offer Long Distance in NJ Verizon expects to introduce its own long-distance offering in New Jersey within weeks. That announcement comes after the Federal Communications Commission approved Verizon's bid to enter the state's long-distance market Monday.

Verizon's application was endorsed by the U.S. Justice Department and the state Board of Public Utilities. But long-distance providers and consumer advocates opposed the application.

Since December 1999, the company has won approval from federal regulators to offer long-distance service in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
