Cherry Hill Tax Increase Municipal taxes are going up in one New Jersey township.

Last night, officials in Cherry Hill approved a 13 percent tax increase. A Cherry Hill homeowner whose property is valued at $140,000 will now pay $51 more a year in taxes.

Officials said that the money is needed for new projects and past debts.

Many residents said that the past debts are not their fault, and they shouldn't have to pay.

"Maybe they also need to examine the decisions that they made that caused them to get into some financial difficulty and I'd look very hard at those decisions," said resident Sid Havely.

Concerned residents packed the budget hearing and demanded to know why the double-digit increase is necessary.

"I think that this township creates its own problems," said one resident

"The suggestions that we cooked the books, is just not correct," said Cherry Hill Mayor Art Simons.
