Suspect May Face Federal Charges Federal charges may be filed today against a Bulgarian student who was arrested at Atlantic City International Airport on Sunday.

Nikolay Dzhonev had an initial appearance via closed-circuit TV in Egg Harbor Township court Monday morning.

A judge explained the weapons charge against him and continued bail at $100,000. The charge would be dropped if the U.S. government decides to prosecute.

Screeners spotted a pair of scissors in the 21-year-old's backpack as he prepared to board a flight to South Carolina with a one-way ticket Sunday. The scissors were embedded in a bar of soap and two box cutters were hidden in a lotion bottle.

A Transportation Security Administration spokesman said Dzhonev said he packed the items that way to keep them from damaging anything else.
