Cop Admits to Crime

by NBC10/AP | Nov 20, 2002
Cop Admits to Crime A police officer who admitted his role in a break-in at his chief's office has resigned.

Harvey Cedars Patrolman Arthur L. Slocum pleaded guilty Tuesday to a disorderly persons charge and was fined $125.

The Barnegat man also agreed to never again seek a public position in New Jersey as part of a plea agreement with the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

Slocum admitted that he watched as Michael Filippone, a part-time officer, broke into Police Chief John Sarnoski's office in September.

Filippone then removed a letter of reprimand from his personnel file, an act which was captured on tape by a hidden video camera.

No charges have been filed against Filippone, who no longer serves on the force, but the investigation is continuing.
