Anthrax Scare in NJ Post Office

by NBC10/AP | Feb 16, 2003
Anthrax Scare in NJ Post Office Authorities closed a post office in Morris County, New Jersey, after brown powder fell from a package.

Police say the package contained a threatening letter intended for a Pennsylvania resident.

The substance was discovered around Friday evening when a postmark machine stamped a padded envelope and the powder spilled out.

Postal Service spokesman Tony Esposito says an initial test was negative for anthrax, but a secondary test was inconclusive.

The post office in the Gillette section of the township was closed yesterday as a precaution, pending tests by the state Department of Health and Senior Services. Those results will be ready Tuesday.
