Former Champ To Prison?

by NBC10/AP | Feb 28, 2003
Former Champ To Prison? Boxing commentator and former two-time world champion Bobby Czyz Jr. may be facing jail time.

He apparently was sentenced improperly on two past drunken-driving convictions. The sentences were questioned after the Flemington, N.J., resident was again charged with DWI earlier in February 2003.

The Courier News of Bridgewater sought Czyz's driving record from the state Motor Vehicles Division after his latest arrest. It found that he had been convicted of drunken driving in 1998, 1999 and 2000 and given a six-month license suspension each time.

But under state law, Czyz should have faced up to six months in jail and had his driver's license suspended for 10 years for the subsequent offenses.

Court and state legal officials are reviewing the cases and will hold a hearing on March 13.
