Sharks Take Series

Last night, the Sharks shut out the Surf 5-0 thanks to a strong pitching performance from Lincoln Mikkelson and a 12-hit attack from the offense. Tonight, Camden totaled 13 hits from four Atlantic City pitchers. Kiochi Taniguchi started the game and was forced out after five innings allowing three runs on five hits, one walk and two strikeouts. He then turned the ball over to Wayne Hoy with the Surf up one on the Sharks. Hoy could not hold onto the lead, allowing three more runs on three hits in a mere 1 1/3 innings. He took the loss dropping his record to 0-1 for the season.
Mike Busby made his Camden debut tonight going six innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits but left the game trailing 4-3. Ted Silva took over in the seventh and picked up his third win of the season (3-5), allowing one hit and two strikeouts in three innings of work on a seven-run outburst late in the game. Newly acquired Raul Rodarte led the way in his first appearance for Camden, going 2-for-3 with four runs batted in and one scored, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning off of Taniguchi. Second baseman John Dorman aided the offensive outburst going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.
The game was a wild one at Campbell`s Field seeing four Surf ejections, including Pitching Coach Mitch Williams, Manager Tommy Helms, DH Emison Soto, and the clubhouse manager. All of which were arguing over balls and strikes.
The Riversharks hit the road beginning a three-game series tomorrow against the Long Island Ducks. Derek Root (5-5, 5.21) will battle Otoniel Lanfranco (0-2, 3.35) in the opening game of the series tomorrow. The Riversharks will return to Campbell`s Field for a nine-game homestand beginning Thursday, August 23 including three-game series against the Somerset Patriots (8/23-8/25), Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds (8/26-8/28) and the Atlantic City Surf (8/29-831).
