Approaching Storm Brings Flood Watch

Another storm system in the west is going to bring a lot of rain. As the system moves east, temperatures will rise and might be above normal by 5 to 10 degrees. The system is also expected to bring very heavy rain.
There might be a little rain Wednesday morning, but by Wednesday night the heavy rain will begin to fall. Officials expect the heavy rain towards Baltimore and Washington will make its way through our area by 6 or 7 Thursday morning.
With plenty of snow pack outside, the rising temperatures are expected to cause some localized flooding, mostly on the roadways.
Officials are reminding local residents to be careful in case of a flood:
- Stay away from flood waters
- Do NOT attempt to drive over flooded roads. The depth of water is not always obvious. The road bed may be washed out under the water, and you could be stranded or trapped. - Stay away from moving water. Moving water six inches deep can sweep you off your feet.
- Be aware of areas where flood waters may have receded and weakened road surfaces.
- Stay away from and report downed power lines.
- Consider health and safety needs. Wash your hands frequently with soap and clean water if you come in contact with flood waters .
- Throw away food that has come in contact with flood waters.
