E-ZPass Operations to Merge

by Press Release-Micah Rasmussen | Mar 22, 2004
E-ZPass Operations to Merge Gov. McGreevey announced on Friday the first steps toward integrating the E-ZPass operations of the Delaware River Port Authority with those of the existing New Jersey system for a projected savings of $1.4 million annually to the DRPA.

At their monthly meeting last week, DRPA commissioners authorized staff to negotiate an agreement with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority to operate the back-office customer service operations of their E-ZPass system. When completed, the merger of operations will provide DRPA customers with significantly improved customer service and violations processing centers that have been praised by motorists in New Jersey.

Additionally, all current 123,500 DRPA customers will have complete online access to their account information to view balance and transactions – a service not previously available to them.

After the merger is complete, the existing DRPA customer service walk-in facility, conveniently located on the Camden side of the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, will remain in place and be available to both NJ and DRPA E-ZPass customers. This will provide a third regionally located customer service facility in New Jersey, supplementing the main center in Newark and a satellite center opened at the John Fenwick Service Area in Salem County on the New Jersey Turnpike last year.

“E-ZPass has come a long way in the past year,” said Governor McGreevey. “Now the improvements that have attracted 160,000 new customers because of its reliable and convenient service in New Jersey can now also be offered to the E-ZPass account holders of the DRPA – along with significant savings.”

ACS State & Local Solutions operates both the DRPA and New Jersey systems. Turnpike officials asked ACS to renegotiate specific costs relating to operations and transactions in the DRPA contract, which will result in $1.4 million in savings. The New Jersey E-ZPass system will not incur any additional costs as a result of the addition of the DRPA accounts.

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority Board of Commissioners will vote on the addition of the DRPA E-ZPass customers at their meeting on March 30th. Complete integration of the two systems is expected to take place this summer.
