Save the Date!

Save the Date! United Way of Atlantic County announced that the 11th annual event will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006 and that AtlantiCare will be honored with this year’s Founder’s Award. Additionally, the organization stated that in the event’s 10-year history, more than $850,000 has been raised.

“To know supporters of this event have contributed more than $850,000 to help those in need is simply overwhelming,” said Thomas J. Kuhar, founder of the Golf & Sporting Clays Invitational and namesake of the Founder’s Award. “Every year we are proud to bring this event to the community – and every year we are touched by the outpouring of support from participants and sponsors alike.”

“Everyone’s support can make a difference in the lives of those who live in our very own communities,” added Bart Speziali, executive vice president at Sun National Bank, the event’s naming partner. “Events like the Golf & Sporting Clays Invitational demonstrate how compassionate our communities truly are and that a fun day of golf and shooting sporting clays can serve a greater purpose.”

Highlights of the 2005 event included the Glenn Family of Atlantic County being honored with the Thomas J. Kuhar Founder’s Award. The family, which owns and operates Glenn Insurance in Absecon, NJ, received the award for their continued support of United Way and the local community, which has spanned many generations. The event also recognized Gary Phillips, a sporting clay shooting legend, and Roger Giberson, owner of Red Wing Sporting Clays Range, for their long-standing support of the event and United Way. The 2006 Founder’s Award will be presented to AtlantiCare.

The 2006 event will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006. Golf and event festivities will be held again this year at the Seaview Resort and Spa, A Marriott Resort, in Galloway, NJ, and the sporting clays competition will again be held at Red Wing Sporting Clays Range in Port Republic, NJ.

“We already are looking forward to this year’s event on October 6, and hope local businesses and individuals get on board early to make it our most successful event,” added John Emge, executive director, United Way of Atlantic County.
