National Preparedness Month
National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of emergency preparedness and to encourage all residents to better prepare their homes and communities for emergencies.
“It is vital that residents take steps to prepare for emergencies at home, work or school,” Freeholder Dawn Marie Addeigo said. “Having a disaster supply kit, contact information, and evacuation routes ahead of time is the best way to protect loved ones and avoid delays.”
The Burlington County Health Department offers a variety of opportunities to learn more about preparing for an emergency, building emergency supply kits and family communications plans. Listed below are some of the resources available to county residents:
• Information can be found on the county website for individuals, schools, businesses and other groups at www.co.burlington.nj.us
• Information can be obtained by calling the Burlington County Health Department at 609-265-5548
• Health Educators are available to conduct presentations for county groups by calling 609-265-5548
• Information is also available through the Department of Homeland Security at http://www.ready.gov.
• Trainings are available through the New Jersey Learning Management Network at https://njlmn.rutgers.edu County residents can also prepare by volunteering for the Burlington County Medical Reserve Corps (BCMRC), Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and the County Animal Response Team (CART). These groups of ready volunteers are trained to assist the community with programs offered through the Burlington County Health Department and the Burlington County Office of Emergency Management.
