Phillies-Pirates Rained Out

Phillies-Pirates Rained Out Tuesday night`s game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies was rained out and will be made up as part of a twinight doubleheader Wednesday.

The game was delayed at the start and called after a delay of 1 hour, 16 minutes.

"Eddie (Wade, Phillies general manager) told us not to have anybody warm up, the forecast was that bad," Phillies manager Larry Bowa said.

With the Pirates making only one trip to Philadelphia this season, the team decided to play a doubleheader at 5:05 p.m. EDT on Wednesday.

Both of Tuesday`s starters, Pittsburgh`s Jason Schmidt and Philadelphia`s Randy Wolf, will be pushed back to start the opener of the doubleheader. The Pirates` Omar Olivares will go against the Phillies` Omar Daal in the nightcap.

Pirates pitcher Terry Mulholland saw the bright side of the short night.

"Rainouts aren`t always that bad, especially when they are quick like tonight," Mulholland said. "Sometimes a guy who wouldn`t normally get a night off is able to get some extra rest."

Most of the players and coaches were ready for the postponement after games in Baltimore and New York were also called off.

"I saw the two games north and south of us had been called so I knew," Bowa said. "You never want to play a doubleheader but at least no one warmed up."
