Several Impressive South Jersey Girls’ Soccer Champions
The New Jersey high school girls’ soccer season concluded with sectional championships last weekend and eight South Jersey teams claimed titles.
Due to the pandemic, the NJSIAA decided not to conduct state championships so the season ended with sectional title games.
In South Jersey there were more sectional champions than usual. In the past there have been public school champs in Groups 1 through 4 and Non Pubic in A (for bigger enrollment schools) and B.
This year a few more sections were added because the NJSIAA was looking to cut down travel. So for instance, there were a few sections that includes teams from the Jersey shore area.
Here are the sectional champs:

Eastern 3, Washington Township 0
The Vikings finished 15-0 with the win over Washington Township. In the regular season Eastern beat Township, 4-1. Hayley Marsden, Cami Silvestro and Emily Eustace scored for the Vikings, the consensus No. 1 team in South Jersey.
Southwest E (Non-Public)
Holy Cross Prep 3, Camden Catholic 1
Holy Cross overcame a 1-0 deficit with three unanswered goals in winning the title. The Lancers received two goals from Ashley Baran and one from Michaela Salvati
Southwest Group C (Group 3)
Burlington Township 4, Gloucester County Institute of Technology, 3 (OT)
This included one of the best comebacks in recent South Jersey tournament history. Burlington Township was down 3-0 at halftime before storming back. Jiselle Daniels finished matters by scoring the game-winner in overtime for the Falcons.
Southwest B (Groups 1 and 2)
Haddonfield 3, West Deptford 2
This was an entertaining game between two Colonial Conference Liberty Division rivals. Haddonfield trailed 2-1 with about five minutes left but came back on goals by Sara Smith and Katie McCormick to win its second straight sectional title. In the regular season the teams split, with Haddonfield losing 3-2 and then winning 4-0.
Southwest A (Group 1)
Haddon Township 2, Schalick 0
Haddon Township finished the postseason outscoring teams 13-0. Lauren Mulligan scored the first goal and that was all keeper Calista Burke and her defense would need. Late in the game the Hawks got an insurance goal by Ava Pellecchia.
Southwest B (Groups 3 and 4 Shore Area)
Ocean City 9, Absegami 1
The high-powered Ocean City offense outscored teams 23-2 in winning their three playoff games. Faith Slimmer scored four times, including the 100th in her career. Ocean City finished 11-0-1 with the tie against Middle Township.
Southeast A (Groups 1 and 2 Shore Area)
Oakcrest 3, Cedar Creek 0
The Falcons won their three playoff games by a 12-0 margin in earning their first sectional title.

Jada Shehadi scored twice and Hannah Curcio scored the other goal, while Gabrielle Gibson earnned the shutout with nine saves.
