NJSIAA Spring Schedule

NJSIAA Spring Schedule
The NJSIAA’s spring sports plan is out and the season will start and end later. As with all sports events during this pandemic, everything will be subject to change, but after having no spring sports last season, there is great hope that one could take place this year.

If one remembers, last year the spring sports teams were practicing for the season when the pandemic hit. Many practices began sometime in the first week of March, but by the middle of the month, everything had been put on hold.

There was initial hope that a spring season could be played, but as the pandemic got worse, it was eventually canceled.

After a successful fall sports season that was a credit to the NJSIAA and all the schools, there is confidence that there could be a spring season.

Like what happened in the fall, there will likely be hiccups. Several sporting events had to be postponed or canceled due to COVID issues, but in the end, the fall season was able to be completed and more importantly, the athletes and coaches got to experience something that they had worked so hard for.

Last week we outlined the winter sports plan. Here is the NJSIAA plan for the spring. The postseason plans haven’t been yet outlined other than the dates that they will be played. The NJSIAA says that state tournament information for all spring sports will be available no later than February 15.

After outlying the winter plan last week, here is a look at each sport’s spring schedule:

Boys tennis
Virtual contact can begin March 1 with practice on March 26 and competition starting April 19. Competition will end by June 20, but there has been no postseason plan as of yet.

Golf
Virtual contact can begin March 1 with practice starting April 1 and the season beginning April 9 and ending by June 20th. As with boys’ tennis there is no postseason plan as of yet.

Baseball and softball
Virtual contact begins March 1, with practice starting on April 1, and the season opening April 19 and ending by June 20. The postseason will run from June 1-20. In these two sports, there is an earlier start time for pitchers and catchers, March 26.
