Delran’s Drew Roskos named a soccer All-American
Delran senior Drew Roskos will go down as one of the top soccer players in South Jersey history. He is also now officially an All-American.
Roskos was recently named to High School All-American soccer games, which will be played on Saturday Dec. 9 at Wando High School in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
For the 13th annual boys’ event there were 40 players chosen, while 44 girls were selected for the 11th annual event.
There were no girls from the seven-county South Jersey area selected.
Roskos was among six New Jersey players on the roster, the most from any state, but he was the lone selection from South Jersey.
The girls’ game is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Dec. 9, followed by the boys’ game at 1 p.m. For those wanting to see Roskos, the games will be live-streamed at PrepSoccer.com.
All players selected in the boys’ and girls’ All-Star games are current high school seniors.
Roskos, who is also an excellent wrestler, will continue his education and soccer career at Bucknell.
A three-year starter, Roskos helped lead Delran to consecutive state Group 2 championships during his sophomore and junior seasons.
Even though he is tightly marked each game, Roskos continues to score big goals.
He entered the week with 79 career goals and 14 assists*.
Roskos had 20 goals and seven assists in his first 19 games for the Bears.
Roskos burst on the scene in his sophomore season with 33 goals and two assists as Delran won the Group 2 state title.
Last year he added 25 goals and five assists as the Bears successfully defended their state title.
Like all good finishers, he has a knack for scoring. Because he has been so tightly marked for so long, Roskos has learned how to get his shot off quickly. He also has the ability to break down defenders and also make space for himself. And he has proven that it doesn’t take much space for him to unleash shots on goal.
He has also carved out a reputation of scoring in the biggest of settings.
Last year he had at least one goal in each of Delran’s playoff games, including the lone score in the Bears’ 1-0 Group 2 state championship win over Ramsey.
As a sophomore he also scored a goal in the Group 2 state final, a 2-1 win over the same Ramsey team.
Roskos has represented Delran and South Jersey in such a positive manner, and he has been justly rewarded by getting to play his final game as an All-American in December.
