South Jersey Football Games of the Week
For many teams, this will already be their fourth game, as this season is beginning to take on some personality. Here are the top games.
Thursday
Cumberland (3-0, 1-0 WJFL Liberty) at St. Joseph (2-0, 1-0), 6 p.m.
St. Joseph is coming off a wild 12-6 overtime win over Absegami. Cole Brubaker scored on a tipped 17-yard touchdown pass from Anthony Salamone to tie the score with under three minutes left in regulation. The two combined for a game-winning 20-yard TD strike in overtime. St. Joseph has already matched its win total from last year when the Wildcats went 2-7. Cumberland has already exceeded last year’s win total after a 2-6 season. The Colts are coming off a 41-34 win over Oakcrest as R.J. Pierce rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries, while catching four passes for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Northern Burlington (3-0, 1-0 WJFL Independence) at Delran (3-0, 1-0), 6 p.m.

Last year’s game was competitive with Delran winning 24-20. This is expected to be a battle of impressive dual-threat quarterbacks. Delran has outscored Bridgeton, Ewing and Cinnaminson, 97-7. Quarterback Vinny Sacca has thrown for 434 yards and five touchdowns and run for 169 yards and three scores. Northern Burlington is coming off a 35-7 win over Moorestown. Quarterback Brent Walulak has thrown for 408 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 233 yards and six scores.

Junior quarterback Jalen Parker threw two touchdown passes against Bergen Catholic, giving him 70 for his career. St. Augustine is coming off a 35-0 American Division win over Cherokee. Junior running back Roman Coney has rushed for 530 yards and nine touchdowns on 50 carries.

Rancocas Valley won at Camden Eastside, 21-6 on Saturday without standout quarterback Sayvien Adams, who was sidelined with a knee injury. Running back Jameer Bellamy picked up the slack, scoring on a 44-yard touchdown reception, while rushing for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Shawnee has played nothing but nail-biters. After opening with a 20-19 loss to Pennsylvania’s Pope John Paul II, the Renegades beat Williamstown, 24-21 and last week Camden 21-20.

Tyheem Sallie has caught five passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Gateway is coming off a 35-7 win over Wildwood. Senior Aidan Barbato has rushed for 497 yards and eight touchdowns on just 41 attempts.

Seneca quarterback Anthony Tirico has thrown for 166 yards and three touchdowns, and has run for 305 yards and three scores. Seneca won 14-7 in last year’s game and this is expected to be just as close.
