Another Big South Jersey H.S. Field Hockey Season
It was another great season for South Jersey high school field hockey, with Clearview and Kingsway successfully defending state championship and Camden Catholic earning a berth in the Non-Public state title game.

Not surprising, Clearview, Kingsway and Camden Catholic have heavy representation on the South Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association All-South Jersey teams.

There are two teams, with 17 players apiece.

Clearview, which won its third consecutive state Group 3 state title, had four players on the first-team. Camden Catholic, the South Jersey Non-Public champ, had three first-team selections, while Kingsway, which won a fourth consecutive Group 4 state title, placed two on the first team.

In addition, South Jersey Group 1 finalist West Deptford had three first-teamers and South Jersey Group 4 finalist Cherokee added two.

FIRST TEAM

Ella Gandy Clearview – Senior; Sophia Stazi Camden Catholic – Junior;  Savannah Freeland Camden Catholic – Senior; Addison McConnell Clearview – Senior;  Blair Eber Clearview – Freshman;  Isabella Sanchez Kingsway – Senior;

Camden Catholic junior Sophia Stazi, Clearview senior Ella Gandy and Camden Catholic senior Lauren Iaccio, were named first-team all-state by NJ.com.

All three players have committed to Rutgers.

Despite having one more season, Stazi has scored exactly 100 goals in her first three years at Camden Catholic. With 49 career assists, she is one point away from 250 in her career.

Her teammate Iaccio had 13 goals and 10 assists this year for the Irish.

Clearview’s Gandy had 43 career goals and 57 career assists from her midfield position.

There were so many other notable performers on the first team, but Kingsway’s Isabella Sanchez deserves special mention. That is because she was a key member of all four consecutive state title teams.

A St. Joseph’s commit, Sanchez had 25 goals and 14 assists this year, both season highs. She finished with 73 career goals and 28 assists.

The breakdown of first-team All-South Jersey members had 11 seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen.

The second-team consisted of eight seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen.

That means there will be 15 returning players who were either on first or second team, which means South Jersey, which is considered one of the true hotbeds for high school field hockey, should continue to remain extremely strong.
