Top Football Players in South Jersey

The South Jersey high school football season begins Aug. 27. Here is a look at just a few of the top players to watch. Players are listed alphabetically.

Ta’sheem Butler, Glassboro, Sr. LB. Butler led Glassboro in tackles last season with 138 after recording 109 as a sophomore. He had a season-high 17 tackles in a regular season win over Schalick. Butler has committed to North Carolina.

KaRon Ceaser, Winslow Township, Sr. RB-DB. Ceaser should be much more part of the offense this year after rushing for 260 yards (9.2 avg.) and four touchdowns last season. He also had 26 tackles and two interceptions. Ceaser, who began his career at Penns Grove, is a Penn State commit.

Roman Coney, St. Augustine, Sr. RB. Last season in his first year as a full-time starter, Coney rushed for 987 yards (6.1 avg.) and 15 touchdowns. He has committed to Cincinnati. Coney rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries in last week’s opening 24-20 win over Bonner-Prendergast of PA.

Amara Doleh, senior WR-LB, Camden Eastside. Doleh was a defensive playmaker for the Tigers with 78 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss. He is a Temple commit.

Semaj Dozier, Pleasantville, Sr., QB-DB. Dozier was recruited as a defensive back and has committed to Virginia Tech. At 6-foot-2 and 170-pounds, he has the size to defend even the biggest receivers. As a quarterback he is a two-way threat.

Iden Ezeiruaku, Glassboro, Jr., DL. After spending his first two seasons at Williamstown, Ezeiruaku has transferred to Glassboro. He has great football roots as his brother Donovan is entering his second season with the Dallas Cowboys.

Jalen Parker, Washington Township, Sr. QB. He is a record-setting quarterback who is transferring from Winslow Township and will have to sit out a few games due to NJSIAA transfer rules. He should be a big addition to a team that lost 28 seniors. Parker has thrown for 7.223 career yards and 107 touchdowns

Mekhi Parker, Glassboro Jr. WR-DB. One of the top juniors in the state, Parker had 39 receptions for 894 yards and 13 touchdowns for the two-time defending Group 1 state champions. At 6-foot-4, he is a nightmare for opponents in the red zone. Parker also had three interceptions, one in which he returned for a TD. Last week he opened the season with three receptions for 85 yards and two TDs in Glassboro’s 40-20 win over Immaculata.

Xavier Sabb, Glassboro, Sr. WR-DB. Considered among the best players in the country, Sabb is a force on both sides of the ball. An Oregon commit, he had 59 receptions for 896 yards and 13 touchdowns last year for the two-time defending state Group 1 champions. He also recorded four interceptions last year and has 13 for his career. At 6-1 and 180-pounds, he is also a dangerous return man. This is one of the more complete players in recent South Jersey history.

Anthony Tirico, Seneca, Sr. QB-S. A fourth-year starter, Tirico is a true dual threat. Last season he threw for 1,660 yards and 17 touchdowns and ran for 1,560 yards (8.5 avg.) and 18 scores. He also had 56 tackles and three interceptions. Tirico is a Marist commit.
