South Jersey Football Game of the Week

Teams get back to division games this week in South Jersey Football. Here is a look at this week’s games.

Thursday

West Deptford (3-0, 1-0 WJFL Constitution) at Paul VI (2-0, 1-0), 7. The winner of this game will stamp itself as a contender in the division. West Deptford has allowed just nine points all season following last week’s 22-0 victory over rival Paulsboro. Zamir Davis is averaging 11.4 yards per carry, with 390 yards rushing and six touchdowns. Paul VI, a 24-14 winner last week over St. Joseph Hammonton, is led by senor running back Nate Klecko who has rushed for 377 yards (10.7 avg.) and four TDs.

Friday

Shawnee (3-0, 1-0 WJFL Colonial) at Rancocas Valley (3-0, 1-0), 6.

On paper this looks like a great matchup, but Rancocas Valley has yet to allow a point. Shawnee’s bread and butter is the ground game, but junior Niko Fifis, who thrown for 307 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, could be a key if the Renegades hope to pull the upset. Rancocas Valley QB Zach Merhar has thrown for 621 yards and nine touchdowns.

Camden (1-1, 1-0 WJFL Classic) at Ocean City (3-0, 1-0), 6.

Camden, with one of the younger teams in the area, was idle this past week. The Panthers lost their opener to one of Pennsylvania’s top teams, Imhotep, 29-8 and beat Holy Spirit, 24-15. Ocean City is coming off a 31-0 win last week over Absegami. Junior Jackson Becker has thrown for 438 yards and six touchdowns.

Washington Township (3-0, 1-0 WJFL American) at Atlantic City (1-2, 0-1), 6.

On paper this looks like a mismatch, but Atlantic City has had a tough schedule and lost just 30-20 to highly regarded St. Augustine. Last week Atlantic City earned a 47-7 win over previously unbeaten Eastern. QB Marvin Burroughs completed 7-of-9 passes for 207 yards and three TDs. Despite losing 28 players to graduation, Washington Township has outscored its three opponents 74-26.

Saturday

Winslow Township (3-0, 1-0 WJFL American) at St. Augustine (3-0, 1-0), 6.

This is the game of the week and will be a matchup of St. Augustine first-year coach Bill Belton against his former Winslow Township team which he guided to state Group 4 championships in each of the past two seasons. Winslow Township was expected to take a step back after losing Belton and several key players, but the Eagles have been one of South Jersey’s most pleasant surprises. Last week the Eagles won 21-7 at Glassboro, ending the Bulldogs’ 29-game win streak. Penn State commit Ka’ron Ceaser had the big play with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. St. Augustine is coming off a 41-7 win over Holy Spirit as Dylan Dellanoce threw four TD passes and now has thrown nine TD passes in the three games.
