South Jersey Football Games of the Week

We are in the final month of the regular season which is moving along at a rapid pace. This is a week dominated by non-conference games and it will be a way of looking at potential contenders’ continued progress.

Friday

Rancocas Valley (5-0) at Millville, (3-1), 6

Millville is coming off a 28-21 overtime win over previously unbeaten St. Augustine, which entered the game the consensus No. 1 team in South Jersey. Reginald Holley rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Thunderbolts. Millville’s lone loss was 39-20 to unbeaten Washington Township. Rancocas Valley is the new consensus No. 1 team in South Jersey. The Red Devils have South Jersey’s best defense, having recorded four shutouts. The only points allowed came in a 36-6 victory over Shawnee.

Paul VI (3-1) at Eastern (4-1), 6

Since a loss to Atlantic City, Eastern is 2-0 with Anthony Salamone at quarterback. Salamone had to sit out the first three games due to NJSIAA transfer rules after competing for St. Joseph Hammonton last year. In his two games, Salamone has thrown for 315 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 48 yards and a score. Paul VI bounced back from a 22-7 loss to unbeaten West Deptford by defeating Willingboro last week, 35-15 as Nate Klecko rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Klecko went over the 2,000-yard career rushing mark and now has 2,082.

Seneca (3-2) at Hopewell Valley (5-0), 6

Since dropping its first to games to Lenape and Haddonfield, Seneca has won three in a row, beating Mainland, Willingboro and Delran by a combined 97-20 margin. Seneca dual-threat QB Anthony Tirico has thrown for 666 yads and four touchdowns and run for 771 and 10 scores. Hopewell Valley entered the week the top seed in South Jersey Group 3 power points. The Bulldogs are coming off a 42-25 win over Allentown in which Ethan Valenza rushed for 345 yards and four touchdowns on 41 carries. In five games Valenza has rushed for 1,041 yards and 13 scores.

Kingsway (0-5) at Williamstown (3-2), 6

Kingsway has played arguably the toughest schedule in South Jersey, having lost to Donvan Catholic, Winslow Township, Rancocas Valley, Millville and Washington Township. Those five teams have a combined 21-3 record. Senior running back Cole DeNick, who has missed two games due to injury, has rushed for 226 yards (7.8 avg.) and two touchdowns. He is the offensive leader for the Dragons. Williamstown has matched its win total from last year. A common opponent has been Washington Township. Williamstown lost 21-0 to Washington Township and Kingsway lost this past week, 28-7 to the Minutemen.

Saturday

Winslow Township (3-2) at Red Bank Catholic (4-1), 6

Winslow Township made headlines when it beat Glassboro 21-7 and snapped the Bulldogs’ 29-game win streak. Since then, the Eagles have lost two games, 42-14 to a St. Augustine team that was No. 1 in South Jersey at the time and last week, 36-30 to fellow Group 4 contender Atlantic City. Trey Alexander rushed for 107 yards and one TD against Atlantic City. He has rushed for 474 yards and six scores. Red Bank Catholic has won four in a row since losing 35-28 opening game to state power DePaul. Sophomore QB Rahmir Rivera has thrown for 763 yards and 10 touchdowns.
