A Look At Some Of South Jersey’s Top H.S. Softball Players
South Jersey has always been a hotbed for top high school softball players, and this year is no different. As the season is into its firsts month, here are just a few of the players to watch who have gotten off to big starts. Players are listed alphabetically.
Emma Dick, Gloucester Sr. P. Dick, who threw a two-hitter in Gloucester’s 3-2 win over Hanover Park in the state Group 2 championship game last year, has picked up where she left off. In her first four games this year, she was 3-0 with a 0.32 ERA with 18 strikeouts and just one walk in 22 innings.
Alaina Dorsey, St. Joseph Hammonton Sr. OF. Dorsey’s blinding speed makes her so dangerous on the basepaths. In leading the defending South Jersey Non-Public B champion to an 8-0 start, she was batting .450 with 12 walks, 12 stolen bases and 18 runs scored. She was a member of the champion Tri-Cape team in last year’s 20th annual Carpenter Cup. Dorsey has committed to Seton Hall.
Brooke Douglas, Ocean City Sr. 3B-P. Douglas made a name for herself last June when she was named the MVP of the Carpenter Cup, after helping lead the Tri-Cape team to the championship. She has gotten off to a big start this year, batting .591 with three home runs and 11 RBIs in her first seven games. A Rhode Island commit, Douglas has started the season 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA. She struck out 41in her first 23.1 innings.
