Phillies To Have Major All-Star Presence at Citizens Bank Park
With Philadelphia hosting the MLB All-Star game on July 14, the Phillies will have a sizable contingent competing in the game. Five Phillies were named to the team. In addition, two more Phillies prospects were named to compete in the Futures Game, which will be this Sunday at noon at Citizens Bank Park.

The Phillies have been a star-driven team and that was evident by their handful of All-Star selections.

Here are the five players who were selected. Statistics are through Saturday.

OF Brandon Marsh. He was voted as a starter by the fans. This is the first All-Star appearance for Marsh, who turns 29 in December.  Previously considered a platoon player, Marsh has been one of the leading hitters in the National League. He began the week hitting .310 with 15 home runs, 46 RBIs and an .856 OPS. Marsh, who began his career with the Los Angeles Angels, is in his sixth MLB season.

1B Bryce Harper. Selected as the ‘commissioner’s pick’ Harper actually is on the team on merit. He is batting .274 with 20 home runs, and 57 RBIs. Harper also has a .903 OPS and a 140 OPS+, which is 40 percent better than league average. This is his ninth All-Star selection and third with the Phillies. Ironically, when he won the MVP in 2021 with the Phillies, Harper wasn’t an All-Star that season. This season he has played in the Phillies first 90 games.

DH Kyle Schwarber. He leads the Majors with 30 home runs and is hitting .256 with a .371 on-base percentage and a league-leading .572 slugging percentage, giving him a .943 OPS. This is his fourth All-Star appearance and third with the Phillies.  In 4.5 seasons with the Phillies Schwarber has hit 217 home runs. He has 370 career home runs. Not surprisingly, the Phillies made the playoffs in each of Schwarber’s first four years with the team, and they appear again headed to the postseason this year.

P Cristopher Sanchez. This year the 29-year-old lefthander is a major CY Young Award candidate. He is 10-3 with a 2.00 ERA and has stuck out 136 in 117 innings. This is his second All-Star selection, with the first in 2024. Last season he finished second in the Cy Young voting. Since 2024, he is 34-17 with a 2.68 ERA and 500 strikeouts in 501.2 innings pitched.

P Johan Duran. This is the first All-Star selection for the 28-year-old right-hander. This season Duran is 1-3 with a 1.52 ERA. He has saved 21 games in 22 attempts. Duran has struck out 45 in 29.2 innings. Since being acquired by the Phillies last season from the Minnesota Twins, he has 37 saves and a 1.79 ERA.

Futures Games

P Gage Wood. The hard-throwing righthander was the Phillies first-round draft choice (26th overall) last season out of Arkansas. Wood, who turns 23 in December, has been starting in the minors, but there has been speculation that he could come up this season to the Phillies as a bullpen arm. He began this season at low Single-A Clearwater, where he was 0-2 with a 3.42 ERA. Gage struck out 40 in 26.1 innings. He was then promoted to Double-A Reading, where he is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA. In seven starts totaling 25.2 innings for Reading, he has struck out 35 and walked nine.

P Wen-Hui Pan. The 23-year-old right-hander is currently pitching for Double-A Reading. He began the year at low Single-A Clearwater before being promoted to High-A Jersey Shore and then to Reading, where he made his debut on June 13. At all three levels he is 3-0 with a 3.04 ERA. In 21 games covering 23.2 innings, he has struck out 29, walked nine and allowed one home run. He was signed by the Phillies in 2023 for a $400,000 bonus.
